MEET THE ARCH HORSES

I saw a child who couldn't walk, sit on a horse and laugh and talk...
I saw a child who could only crawl, mount a horse and sit up tall...
I saw a child born into strife, take up and hold the reins of life...
And that same child was heard to say, thank you God for showing me the way.

Here are the patient and kind horses we can thank for all the miracles at ARCH.........

Hello! I am UNO (b. 1986), and I am a quarter horse, which means I have a great disposition and love attention from everyone. I am palomino in color (a blonde), tall and handsome (if I do say so myself.) Because I am so pleasant and tall, I get to work with kids and small adults. Give me a command and I will happily help you get where you’re going. I love when my rider and I work as a team and we succeed. A rub on my neck as a thank you from my riders is just the best. And a special treat of carrots and apples can’t be beat!

I'm O'MALLEY- the old man of the barn, born in 1976, but still as active as the younger guys! I am a draft horse and am considered to be chestnut in color. That means I am brown all over. I do have a great white blaze down my face. When I was 19 years old I was going to be taken to the ‘big sale’ which means I would not be alive for long. But, a great person bought me and let the Atlantic Riding Center for the Handicapped use me for their special riders. It is still the greatest thing I have ever done. And I have done it all. I was a cross country jumper, a show horse, and a trail horse. People can’t believe that I am still alive but I know it is because of the riders I am helping and the great love I am getting from everyone at ARCH.

Hi there. I’m COPPER (b. 1987), with a brown coat that shines like a new copper penny on a bright, sunny day. My mane, tail and legs are all black. That means my coloring is called a “bay.” I used to be in a group called the “pony club” where I showed off what I could do for my owner. Now, I show off what I can do with many, many children at the Atlantic Riding Center for the Handicapped. I have become a very important equine staff member here, because I am very smooth to ride. Children who have a hard time balancing learn to balance while I carry them in their lesson. That makes me a V.I.P. … Very Important Pony!

My name is CODY. I was born in 1998 and am the youngest member of the ARCH equine staff. That means I have so much to learn from the other horses. I am brown and white in color which makes me a Pinto. Being one of the smallest ponies in the barn, I am always busy with the smallest kids here at ARCH. But I have the biggest heart and love to teach my riders how to be stronger and smarter. Someday, I want to be the ‘ARCH Horse of the Year’. Everyone should have a goal, you know?

Small but mighty! That’s me…COCA MOCHA FRAPPACINO! I am the smallest by far of the equine staff here at ARCH. Born in 1994, I came here via an ARCH board member who bought me at the New Holland Auction. I was supposedly a pony with an Amish family. I don’t care about cars or trucks or bicycles coming by me. I am brave and rock steady. The wee little ones just love me because I am their size. The volunteers love me because I am so easy to work around. Hmmmm…………..I am just so loved here, I think I will stay at ARCH FOREVER!!!!!! Come visit me….and bring carrots, my favorite treat.

I am HANK. Some call me Hank the Tank! I was born in 1999, and am a cross between a Percheron and a Quarter Horse which gives me a very big body and neck but just the right height for everyone to ride! My coat is all black and I have a black mane and tail. I do have a beautiful star under my long forelock which you can’t see unless you brush my hair aside. When I came to ARCH, most thought I couldn’t move very fast, but after some serious training I learned to walk, trot, and canter just the way everyone likes it….still slow but very steady!

I'm an Icelandic horse named TINDUR. I was born in 1981 and imported to the U.S. in 1987, and one of the very few Icelandic stallions in the country at that time. I was shown at various demos and expos and was known for my sweet disposition. I'm glad that my son, Hrimnir, is here at ARCH with me, as we have always been together.

Hello! My name is HRIMNIR, an Icelandic horse just like my father, Tindur. I was born in the US in 1989. I have always lived with my father, so I'm glad we could come to ARCH as a team. We came late to therapeutic riding, but love to have jobs among people who need us and love us, and we both plan to do our very best to be valuable ARCH members.

Hey! I'm ANDERS, a sturdy Fjord, and a gift from the

Hello! I'm Huey (b. 2000), a very handsome Paint, and I come from north Jersey where I was a great trail horse. Being a trail horse I saw a lot, and am ready to be a steady and trusty mount for ARCH riders. Being quite handsome, I already have many friends and admirers. I'm proud of my work with our veterans program.

Hi! My name is NATE, and I am one of the nicest guys you ever want to meet. I hope to be helping people soon, but first I need to mend from my own medical condition. I certainly am feeling better, thank you.

Have you ever seen a more handsome horse? I doubt it. My name is Buddy, and I think ARCH is a great place to be admired (and help out, of course)!!
